Foster Care is meant to be a temporary living situation for children whose parents are unable to care for them; however, due to unforeseen or uncontrollable circumstances this temporary solution sometimes becomes a permanent one. The foster care system has seen more than a 20% increase in foster care placements because of the U.S. opioid crisis. The child welfare system serves 700,000 foster children in any given year. Many of these children face traumatic experiences as they enter foster care, and the statistics of the lifelong achievements and success of these children are disturbing.

  • The average foster child enters the foster care system at the age of 8.

  • The average foster child will experience at least 3-7 different homes before they exit foster care.

  • Foster care children are 4 times more likely to experience PTSD.

  • Many foster children are 2 years behind their peers in their education.

  • Only 50% of foster youth graduate high school compared to 71% of the average population.

  • 10% will go to college, and less than  3% of those will graduate.
